Transferring an active domain entails switching the domain name registrar that provides the registration service, so after the transfer, you will have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS entry updates through the new registrar. The transfer process is standard with most generic and country-code top-level domain name extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain name involves a few basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The lock is a security option, which is being adopted by more and more domain registry organizations. It is a standard feature supported by all gTLDs. If a domain name is locked, it won’t be possible to start a transfer process, so no one can even attempt to steal your domain. The lock can be removed only through the account where the domain is registered and all new domains that support this feature are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through us is incredibly easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our Linux cloud hosting, and will take literally two clicks of the mouse. All your domains will be displayed alphabetically in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will see a padlock-like logo. Click on it once and you will notice the present status of the domain. Click for the second time and you will alter its status. The update will propagate instantly without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can initiate the transfer right away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you’ve registered a domain through our company and you would like to transfer it away, you can easily unlock it through the same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to manage your semi-dedicated server account. All domain registrations will be shown alphabetically in your account and you’ll see a mini padlock icon next to each domain name there, provided that its extension supports the registrar lock feature. You can see if the domain is locked or not by clicking on this icon and modify the present status by clicking on it again. You can then proceed and initiate the transfer straight away without needing to wait for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup websites, as the change will take effect momentarily without you or us having to do anything else.
